It’s OK to look, gawk even. Garrett Borns is a vocal mix of Mick Jagger, Jack White, Usher and Jeff Buckley, dressed as a gender-bending, visually appealing, long-haired rocker that would impress Andy Warhol.
Touring in support of his second album, Blue Madonna, following up his stardom-inducing first album, Dopamine and his rep-building EPs, A Dream Between and Candy, St. Louis is in for a treat. Just take an hour to listen to “Sweet Dreams” on repeat. “God Save Our Young Blood” featuring Lana Del Rey and “Holy Ghost” off of Dopamine are must-listens too.
His falsetto-driven, psychedelic synth pop transports one to the late 1970s’ dancy-glam-pop and 1980s’ smoky keyboard laboratories. That sound, coupled with BØRNS’ signature vocals, is why Tuesday’s show at The Pageant is sold out.
